5 Step Wiring Instructions for 2 Circuit Configurations For Whirlpool Tubs

Some whirlpool bathtubs need to be on 2 dedicated, 15-20A, 120V circuits.

Here's a 5-step reference guide on how to do it.

Step 1: Plan Your Wiring Layout

- Materials Needed: Wire nuts, electrical tape, circuit breakers, 14-gauge wire, electrical boxes, GFCI outlets, light fixtures, and switches.

- Safety First: Turn off the main power supply.

- Layout: Plan the position of the GFCI outlets, light fixtures, and switches. Most people position them on the wall behind the bathtub, but they can be run on the floor so the tub sits on top.

Step 2: Install Electrical Boxes

- Placement: Install electrical boxes at planned locations for outlets, switches, and light fixtures.

- Secure Boxes: Ensure boxes are securely attached to floor or wall studs.

Step 3: Run the Wiring

- Wiring Path: Run 14-gauge wire from the electrical panel to the first electrical box.

- Separate Circuits: Run two separate wires from the panel, one for each circuit (one for outlets and one for lighting).

- Staple Wires: Staple wires to the wall studs to keep them secure.

Step 4: Connect Outlets and Switches

- GFCI Outlets: Connect the ground, neutral, and hot wires to the GFCI outlets as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 5: Finalize and Test

- Circuit Breakers: Install 15A circuit breakers in the main panel for each circuit.

- Power On: Turn on the main power supply and test each outlet and light fixture to ensure proper operation.

- GFCI Test: Test GFCI outlets to ensure they trip properly when the test button is pressed.
